Wellbeing and Mental Health Youth Coaching

Supporting young people to have Positive Mental health through tending to their whole self, space to self discover and together build their holistic toolkit.

I support young people (11-25 year olds), young adults and those working with young people, through one to one coaching and group facilitation. My work weaves positive psychology, mental health support, trauma informed, holistic wellbeing and bodywork.

Hello, I am Nikki, I have been working with young people for over 20 years I care deeply about the adolescent stage of life.

Life a teenager can be challenging, confusing, painful, disengaging and come with a lot of uncertainty.

With the right environment, mindset and support it can also be a spectacular time, where young begin to realise their potential, discover who they are, what they are good at and how they may contribute to the world around them. This is what I love to do with young people.

You may be here because….

You are a young person (11-25 years old) or seeking support for a young person?

Are you looking for an emotionally available adult, an impartial, non-judgemental, supportive space to explore areas of your life? Anything from finding your motivation to exploring your passion, gifts or future pathways.

You have you noticed a dip in your mental health or the that of the young person you are seeking support for. This may look like any of there

  • Feeling low in your mood

  • Feeling unable to learn and study

  • Loss of interests and passion

  • Lost connection with others

  • Feeling depressed and anxious

  • Daily routines feel hard to manage

  • You may be on a waiting list to be seen for your mental health and are looking for some support in the meantime?

Why Now?

Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.”

There is a frightening rise of poor mental health in young people. And now the pandemic’s negative impact is resulting in social anxiety, reduced confidence and depression. Along with school pressures and the world of social media. Now, more than ever before, is the time we need to support our young people holistically (mentally, spiritually, emotionally, socially and physically).

Too many young people are living with….

  • High levels of stress and unrealistic academic expectations

  • Sleep issues and exhaustion

  • A lack of confidence and low self esteem and social anxiety

  • No motivation and engagement as they have lost their love for learning

  • Fear for the future as they feel unequipped with how to live in the world outside of school

  • Feeling a sense of loss in who they are because they have given up what makes them happy, such as hobbies and passions, to focus on grades and school.

I work each day with young people who face these challenges.

Schools are under-resourced to support student’s wellbeing needs and the waiting list to get help with NHS's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) can be anything from 3 months to a year.

Young people need someone they can trust, who they can talk to, and work stuff out together, not alone. Young people need emotionally available adults and we know that cannot always be teachers, parents or guardians

What is coaching?

Coaching is rooted in personal development, through providing a space for young people to be seen and heard, along with concrete tools and essential life skills.

Coaching is an active way of developing young people's strengths and abilities which results in them being able to raise their self esteem and confidence and ability to bounce back from life stresses and pressures.

Coaching empowers young people, and their families, to feel more in control of their own mental health and lives. It is a space where they can feel empowered to support themselves as well as get the external support they may need.

With a focus in positive psychology this frameworks can be a buffer to mental health illness and compliments therapeutic and clinical practises.

It deals with the every day reality for young people and looks to future about where and how they want to be.

How I Can Help…

I combine coaching, trauma informed play practises, creative forms, body work and nature connection.

What may we explore in our sessions?

  • Raise awareness and up-skill young people about mental health and mental ill health

  • Learn tools in self awareness: emotional literacy, being in tune with feelings, daily habits, early warning signs of poor mental health

  • Focus how to function for now, day by day and even how to thrive

  • Identify blocks and triggers and explore what may need to change

  • Create a crisis plan for when mental health is dropping

  • Empower young people to know how to self care in a way that works for them

  • Stress reduction and ways to release strong emotions

  • Share techniques and practices that focus on wellbeing: including mindfulness, positive psychology, embodiment, physical health and personal development
