Projects

Grief Guides with Apart of me

I developed and co created The Grief Guides programme: The purpose of the programme is to take young people aged 14-18 on a 6 week journey to support that the isolation that came come with grief and that sharing our experiences can help those who also lost someone they love. The sessions have been designed by us to be a mix of fun activities, deep conversations and discovering new creative ways to relate to your grief as well as to learn to guide others through grief.

Session Framework:

  • Embodiment: Breathing, movement, mindfulness practice: Helping us to all arrive together and be present

  • Group Agreement & Principles

  • Connecting and checking in:  Games, Song, storytelling

  • Topic/ Activity in focus: Based on one of the aims and principles

  • Closing / checking out

The sessions include quotes, poetry, resources based around grief, as inspiration. Through creating a safe container and space and encouraging connection to our own feelings and each others, we explore our journey of grief.

The young people are then trained up to become peer grief guides for other young people.

Make it stand out

Out In the Field: Nature Connection retreats for Teachers, NHS staff and care workers.

https://outinthefield.org/

I am part of the lead facilitation team for OITF. Out in the Field is an initiative providing retreats for frontline staff.

It was set up to support staff in the public sector to prioritise their wellbeing. To give them time to relax, restore and reconnect and to up-skill them to be active participants in their own health care, providing a tool-kit of strategies to deal with stress when working in high pressure jobs. Each retreat is facilitated by experienced teachers and forest bathing guides and designed around the specific needs of a team or group. The core practices of the programme are mind-body practices following the Sophrology methodForest Bathing and nutrition and reflection practices.

The Visionaries

VISIONARIES-LOGO-green.png
I am a cofounder of the The Visionaries. The Visionaries is a social enterprise established to help create nurturing school communities and to support young people into healthy adulthood. We partner with schools to co-create community-oriented, culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate ‘rites of passage’ that help youth navigate key transitions in their journey to adulthood. Drawn from ancient traditions, and integrated with contemporary science and technologies, these rites of passage enables young people to fully self-actualise, whilst also being a powerful tool for enhancing community health, cohesion and resilience.https://thevisionaries.org.uk/

Community Wellbeing Task Force

JFS-279.jpg

I worked as a wellbeing practitioner in a Secondary school as part of The Community Wellbeing Project, a 3-year pilot scheme stemming from the advice of an expert panel and commissioned research, which identified that a positive approach to mental health and wellbeing requires an educated partnership between school staff, parents/carers and students. As part of this role I was part of a group who created, designed and delivered a holistic wellbeing curriculum that is now being rolled out in over 17 schools.

Our discussions meander through the 'youth-scape' covering topics such as; navigating change, emotional wellbeing, relationships, social and environmental justice, education reform, nature connection, and the value of rites of passage etc...
